Information technology touches our lives in more ways every day. The US Oncology Network utilizes the integrated technology of McKesson Specialty Health, such as the iKnowMed™ EHR and Lynx Mobile® inventory-management system, to help physicians in The Network advance the quality, safety and science of cancer care to optimize patient outcomes and practice operations. We seek to continually improve patient outcomes by enabling effective communication and collaboration between those touching the patient directly and indirectly.
We invest in technologies that:
• Allow us to safely store patient health information electronically
• Empower information sharing, collaboration and communication among doctors and other caregivers
• Track treatment results — allowing us to measure the effectiveness of cancer treatments
iKnowMed Electronic Health Records
Record-keeping may seem like a non-essential aspect of top-quality patient care. But having your records secure, well-maintained and easily available to your doctor can ensure you get the right medication and help keep your cancer-care team focused on you rather than paperwork.
Developed by oncologists for oncologists, iKnowMed is customized exclusively for the unique requirements of cancer care. iKnowMed’s Patient Health Record contains everything about your care, from your first visit through your latest. This means that you or your doctor can get a complete record of your case at any time without having to rely on paper logs, or worse, memory.
Additionally, iKnowMed tracks the use of treatment pathways and their effectiveness in patients. This means that our doctors can check that effectiveness across multiple patients at any time to continuously improve standards of care.
iKnowMed also helps identify appropriate patients for specific clinical trials based on the detailed patient-specific data in the electronic health records.
Healthcare Informatics
Because physicians in The US Oncology Network practice evidence-based medicine, we see the importance of accurately measuring and reporting on use of treatment pathways and their results. Our informatics system makes this possible, allowing continual refinement and improvement of our Level I Pathways. These capabilities also allow us to more fully understand the overall effectiveness of a broad range of cancer care treatments, leading to further refinements in the standard of care for patients all across America.
Lynx Mobile
Built for community-based infusion clinics, Lynx Mobile encompasses innovative charge capture technology, improved inventory management and robust reports to provide the tools that increase a practice’s efficiency. Lynx Mobile enables clinical staff members to spend more time caring for patients while the business staff supports the needs of the clinicians.
Physician Collaboration
Physicians in The US Oncology Network collaborate electronically through The Oncology Portal, a system that lets them tap into the knowledge of oncology experts across The Network. Your doctor can confer with colleagues nationwide to gather input on unique cases and share details of the latest advancements in cancer care. This means a virtual second opinion is built into every diagnosis.
Clinical Trial Matching
Our US Oncology Research team also maintains data on all of our clinical trials past and present electronically, making it easy to match your case with appropriate clinical trials.
System Stability
With all of our data stored electronically, we have a strong vested interest in making sure the systems that house it are stable and secure. We are firmly committed to keeping our network robust, reliable and efficient.
