Physician Governance

US Oncology’s commitment to physician leadership is evident in its physician committee structure. Physicians meet regularly to make clinical and treatment policy decisions and to address other issues affecting the patient experience.   The National Policy Board (NPB) is a physician advisory group that addresses strategic and operational issues within US Oncology. Every Comprehensive Strategic Alliance (CSA) practice is represented on the board. The NPB plays a key role in developing initiatives and setting policy for the network. Standing committees focus on the following areas: Blood and Marrow Transplantation Committee—provides advice and direction on managing, selecting, and directing research related to the BMT transplantation program. Clinical Research Committee—advises on scientific direction and operational initiatives to create and maintain a leading community-focused cancer research program. Cancer Center Services Committee—addresses policies that ensure effective, efficient operation of integrated cancer centers. Current task forces are addressing Practice Quality and Efficiency (PQE). Clinical Leadership Committee—develops tools and resources that provide quality care and service to patients and their families. Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee— provides physician-directed reviews of drugs and biological treatments and a forum for exchanging ideas. Creates and updates clinical pathways to promote consistent and evidence-based treatment decisions. Public Policy Steering Committee—identifies significant state and national law policy priorities and works for positive resolution. Radiation Oncology Committee—advises on policies, procedures, technologies, and initiatives that ensure patient access to state-of-the-art technologies in their communities. Includes two subcommittees: Cancer Center Services and Imaging and Diagnostic Services.
